Smoked Salmon Spread

This full-flavor dip will tickle your taste buds with its interplay of smoky fish, briny capers, and vibrant fresh herbs. For a light meal, smear the spread on crackers or bagel crisps, or for a more substantial meal, use it as a sandwich filling. For added zing, add a dash of horseradish.

If you have mouth sores, omit the lemon juice and capers.

This recipe may not be appropriate for immuno-compromised patients. 

Makes 8 servings,

Ingredients

  • 1/2 (8 oz) tub regular or reduced-fat cream cheese
  • 4 ounces smoked salmon, chopped, divided
  • 1 Tbsp fresh lemon juice
  • 2 Tbsp chopped fresh dill
  • 1 heaping Tbsp chopped capers
  • 1 heaping Tbsp finely chopped red onion or chives

Instructions

  1. In a food processor, pulse the cream cheese, half of the smoked salmon, and lemon juice until smooth.
  2. Transfer to a bowl and stir in the remaining salmon, dill, capers, and red onion.
